How to use Remote Desktop on Windows 10

Connect to a Windows 10 PC remotely using Remote Desktop from your Windows, Android, or iOS device.

Here is how to enable remote connections on your PC and then connect to it.

Note- The Remote Desktop server (the PC you are connecting to) must run a Pro edition of Windows. However, the client machine (the device you are connecting from) can run any edition of Windows (Pro or Home) or even a different operating system altogether.

Firstly, prepare the PC for Remote Desktop Connections.

  1. Ensure your PC runs Windows 10 Pro.
  2. To verify –
    1. Go to “Start”.
    2. Search “Settings”.
    3. Select the “System” option.

    4. Scroll down and click on the last option “About”.

    5. Check the “Edition” from the right side of the screen.

    6. Once this is confirmed, Go to Start > Settings > System > Remote Desktop.

    7. Enable Remote Desktop.

    8. Note down the name of this PC under “How to connect to this PC” for later use.
  3. Connect to the configured PC using Remote Desktop-
    1. On your local Windows PC , Open the search box on the taskbar, type “Remote Desktop Connection,” and select the app.
    2. Enter the name of the PC you wish to connect to , then click Connect.

    3. On your Windows, Android, or iOS device-
      1. Launch the Remote Desktop app (available free on the Microsoft Store, Google Play, and the Mac App Store).
      2. Add the name of the PC you want to connect to (from Step 1).
      3. Select the added remote PC name and wait for the connection to be established.
